Downton Cowl is a chevron lace cowl inspired by the castle in the tv show Downton Abbey that has a structural & garter like border that mimics & symbolizes the stability of a home – the foundation and the roof. Don’t we all know how up and down life is in between 🙂 After all…where do you think downton abbey get’s all it’s story lines from…lol. The Downton Cowl uses only (1) skein of yarn, is knit in the round and can easily be made in one evening. It’s a quick project that is both satisfying in it’s design but also fast in it’s execution.

Pattern Includes: Both fully written and charted instructions.   Skill Level: Intermediate

Materials Used: 8 ply DK Yarn/206m). We recommend one skein of Juniper Moon’s Herriot 100% Alpaca for a super soft finish

Gauge:  17 sts and 25 rows = 4in/10cm in St st worked flat and blocked. 16 sts and 25 rows = 4in/10cm in Downton Lace Pattern worked flat and blocked.

Finished Measurements: Approx 13.5in/34cm wide and 9.75in/24cm high, flat & blocked.

Crafty Yarn Council is a great website full of useful information including all the standard symbols for crochet and knitting and all the information on what all those symbols on your yarn tags mean, hook and needle conversion charts and more! They also have all the information on Yarn weights including WPI which is very useful if you lost your tag!  The other useful website is Yarnsub –  great advice on what you can substitute your yarn for in a pattern. Both websites are worth having in your favourites.
